Biblical Education

Jewish Education and Faith
Jewish education has traditionally begun with faith education, which naturally develops into character formation and eventually contributes to academic learning.
Jewish children are often introduced to Scripture from a very young age. Some families read the Bible to their children even before birth, and children are encouraged to repeatedly read Scripture aloud, memorize it,
and engage in discussion and debate based on Jewish texts such as the Talmud.
In traditional Jewish education, religious study has historically occupied an important place alongside general academic subjects.
Despite making up only a small percentage of the world's population, Jewish people have made significant contributions in areas such as science, economics, politics, philosophy, the arts, and culture.

For nearly two thousand years, even without a nation of their own, the Jewish people preserved their faith, traditions, and cultural identity and passed them down from generation to generation.
Because God reveals Himself through His Word, we must read and study Scripture in order to know Him.
In Jewish tradition, studying sacred texts itself can be understood as an act of devotion and worship.
Serious study of the Talmud is regarded not simply as acquiring information,
but as a lifelong process of seeking wisdom and understanding.
In some traditional religious schools, students begin studying the Talmud at a young age and continue throughout their education.

The Family of Jonathan Edwards — A Legacy of Faith and Education

Faith lived out consistently in both words and actions.
The power of love within the family.

https://www.eduinnews.co.kr/news/articleViewAmp.html?idxno=8004

In American history, the family of Jonathan Edwards (1703–1758) is often cited as an example of a family whose spiritual and educational legacy had a lasting influence on American society.
Jonathan Edwards was one of the leading theologians associated with the Great Awakening and built a home centered on faith and education together with his wife, Sarah Pierpont Edwards.
Sarah Edwards is remembered not merely as a supportive wife but as a woman who played an important role in caring for her family, nurturing her children, and cultivating a spiritually rich home.
Later studies of the Edwards family line, including those associated with American educator A. E. Winship, have frequently been cited as an illustration of how the faith, values, education, and culture established by parents can influence future generations.
The significance of the Edwards family is therefore not simply a matter of genetics. Rather, it demonstrates how the faith, education, values, and way of life cultivated within one family can shape generations to come.

Characteristics of the Edwards Family
  • They placed great importance on the education of their children.
  • Daily Bible reading and prayer were central to family life.
  • The parents sought to model godliness and love through their own lives.
  • Discipline was accompanied by meaningful conversation and strong family relationships.
  • Sarah Edwards was widely respected for her spiritual maturity.

1. The Legacy of the Edwards Family

According to accounts commonly associated with A. E. Winship's study of Jonathan and Sarah Edwards' descendants, many members of later generations became influential leaders in American society.

1. The Spirituality and Character of Sarah Pierpont Edwards
Behind Jonathan Edwards' well-known ministry stood the devoted influence of his wife, Sarah.
Sarah was known for her deep spirituality and gentle character.
A Model of Self-Control
She sought to discipline her children with calmness and reason rather than uncontrolled anger or shouting.
Parental Authority and Respect
The Edwards children were taught to respect their parents,
and parental guidance carried significant weight within the household.
2. A Life Built Around Clear Priorities
Jonathan Edwards devoted many hours each day to study, writing, prayer, and ministry,
yet family relationships remained an important part of his life.
Family conversations provided opportunities to discuss what they had learned, questions of faith,
and issues taking place in society.
Through these conversations, the children were encouraged to develop thoughtful reasoning,
intellectual curiosity, and a mature Christian worldview.

3. A Strong Sense of Calling and the Pursuit of the Public Good
The Edwards family did not simply emphasize personal success or the accumulation of wealth.
Instead, their children were encouraged to ask:
“How can you use the gifts God has given you to glorify Him and serve your neighbors and society?”
This sense of calling encouraged future generations to serve in areas such as law, education,
ministry, government, and public life.
The Edwards family reminds us that what parents believe, how they live, and the quality of the conversations they have with their children can leave an influence that extends far beyond their own generation.

Testimony of Yeo Jin-goo, CEO of Kyujang Publishing
From a Life That “Used” God to a Life That Loves God
In this interview, Yeo Jin-goo, head of Kyujang Publishing, shares his personal testimony and the story behind the ministry of Kyujang and GODpeople.
Pastor Han Chang-su of Emmaus Church in Daegu participates as a special host, exploring how the work of the Holy Spirit transformed not only one person's life but also the direction of Kyujang Publishing and GODpeople.
Yeo's father was originally not a Christian and had been a successful businessman in the publishing industry.
However, he later developed a serious spinal disc condition that left him unable to move normally.
During this difficult period, his wife, who was a devoted Christian, thoughtfully gave him a Bible.
Because he had always enjoyed reading, he began reading Scripture deeply. Through that process, he encountered God's grace and eventually came to faith in Jesus Christ.

About Dr. David Lee

Dr. David Lee earned a doctorate in economics from the Complutense University of Madrid in Spain and
pursued studies in law and economics in the United States.
He has served in academic positions in the United States and as a visiting professor at the University of Oxford.
He has also held leadership roles associated with the World Trade Centers Association (WTCA).

Testimony — Faith, Stewardship, and God's Economy
I would like to speak about the area of economics in relation to the work of God.
I often think about our dealings with God. God does not always give us immediate results. Instead,

He gives us promises and asks us to trust Him. In this way,
our faith is revealed through whether we are willing to trust and obey what He has said.
I discovered an important principle while working in the United States. When a person genuinely acts in faith,
that faith shapes the way he responds even when circumstances do not unfold as expected.

In the same way, we can come before God sincerely and continue to seek Him because we have placed our trust in Him.
I believe this is closely connected with vision.
My opportunity to work internationally through the World Trade Center came because I continually reminded myself that ultimately I was working before God.
Whenever I entered my office, I would kneel and pray.
If I failed to kneel before God, I could easily lose sight of whom I was serving and why I was working.
God is the ultimate owner and source of everything we possess.
A person who is willing to surrender anything for a God-given purpose cannot easily be controlled
by the power of this world.
If we earn resources for God's purposes but refuse to use them for His purposes,
then we have misunderstood stewardship.

At one point, after purchasing a house, its value increased dramatically. I began to struggle inwardly over the gain.
Eventually, I chose to give the money away.
Later, I received a letter explaining that the gift had helped purchase farmland to support North Korean refugees.
I was deeply grateful.

Christian businesspeople must allow the gospel to transform the way they think about money.
If we truly make a decision to live differently, we can influence the world around us.
Do you remember one of the saddest encounters recorded in the Bible?
It was the conversation between Jesus and the rich young ruler.
Jesus told him to let go of his possessions and follow Him, but the young man went away because he could not release what he owned.
My hope is that through the experience of surrender, you will become people whom God can use to influence the world.
God invites us:
“Come and participate with Me in what I am doing in the world.”
The world's economy ultimately does not belong merely to politicians, business leaders, or institutions.
The true Christian vision is that people who love God would pray, serve, give,
and use the resources entrusted to them for His purposes.

True wealth begins when we stop seeing a person simply as a customer or a source of profit and begin seeing that person as a soul precious to God.
Even when I was operating only a very small business, I refused to give up that dream.
When our family was struggling financially, my wife continued to give faithfully because she trusted God.

No matter how much we accomplish, if a spirit of generosity and surrender never develops within us,
our achievements ultimately have little spiritual value.
Thank you.
